Silvia Pomes is a materials scientist working at the Bundesanstalt fuer Materialforschung und pruefung (BAM) in Berlin, Germany. She received an Adolf Martens Fellowship, a BAM program that supports outstanding early career researchers by enabling them to pursue independent research projects within the institute’s scientific departments, and a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship funded by the European Union. Through these fellowships, she worked in Department 5, Materials Engineering. Her research focuses on the mechanical behavior and deformation mechanisms of advanced materials at the micro and nanoscale, including metallic glasses and complex alloys. She applies experimental methods such as nanoindentation together with statistical and data driven analysis to investigate plasticity, creep, and structural instabilities in materials. Her work contributes to a better understanding of how microscopic deformation processes influence macroscopic mechanical properties, with relevance for materials engineering, reliability, and safety.
