Prof. Dr. Silvia Polla is a specialist in archaeoinformatics and landscape archaeology. She earned her Ph.D. in 2006 and previously held positions at the universities of Siena, Trient, Venice and Bern. From 2009 to 2021 she served as Junior Professor of Archaeoinformatics at Free University of Berlin and since 2021 she works at the Weierstraß Institute in Berlin, responsible for research data and library services. Her research focuses on digital and scientific methods in archaeology, including GIS-based spatial analysis, agent-based modelling, high-resolution terrain survey, and organic residue analysis to reconstruct ancient Mediterranean land use, movement and food systems. She collaborates widely and integrates computational techniques into archaeological interpretation while supporting open data and infrastructure in heritage science.
