Prof. Dr. Giovanni Capellini is a Senior Scientist at the Leibniz Institute for High Performance Microelectronics (IHP) in Cottbus and Full Professor of Condensed Matter Physics at Università Roma Tre in Rome. He received his M.Sc. in Physics from Sapienza University of Rome in 1994 and his Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Physics in 1998. Since 2012, he has led the joint IHP–Roma Tre laboratory focused on advanced group-IV semiconductors such as SiGeSn and graphene for applications in silicon-based optoelectronics, nanophotonics, quantum technologies, spintronics, and biosensing. He has authored over 250 peer-reviewed publications and holds several patents. Prof. Capellini has delivered more than 70 invited talks at international conferences. In 2022, he held the Boelter Chair in Engineering at UCLA, where he worked on integrating plasmonic biosensors with silicon technologies.
