Dr. Andrea Belluati is a biotechnologist and Emmy Noether independent group leader at TU Darmstadt, born in 1991. He leads a junior research group focusing on hybrid bio‑synthetic systems that combine polymer-based artificial cells with living cells. His work explores how enzymatic polymerization and encapsulation strategies can create semi-artificial constructs with controlled function—aiming at bio-inspired drug delivery, biofuel production, and synthetic organelle design. Belluati earned his master’s in Industrial Biotechnology at the University of Turin in 2015 and completed his PhD at the University of Basel. He continued as a postdoc in Prague and Glasgow before joining TU Darmstadt in 2022 as a Marie Skłodowska‑Curie fellow. In 2024 he was awarded the Athene Young Investigator status. He builds interdisciplinary collaborations and mentors students in bioengineering and synthetic biology.
